Oregon Senior Games Profile: Pole Vaulting coach Dave Gable

A pole-vaulter since third grade, Dave Gable set the school record at Beaverton High School in 1975 with a vault of 15 (!) feet, winning the Oregon School Activities Association state championship.

Thanks to an Oregon State University scholarship, he continued to build his pole-vaulting resume, eventually going on to coach at Corvallis’s Crescent Valley High School.

The last two summers have found Dave at the Oregon Senior Games, acting as the head pole-vault official. “I saw my old vault coach from Oregon State jumping, and others I recognized from meeting them over the years,” he recalls. “Staying active is a great way to stay healthy, have fun, and interact with other committed comrades in this very unique sport.”
