Well, the time has come. You are or soon will be 65. Big birthday! Perhaps you are looking at retirement opportunities, travel, education? The possibilities abound. One thing you know for sure: you are now eligible to receive Medicare.
If you are receiving Social Security benefits prior to Medicare eligibility, you will automatically be enrolled in Medicare A and B. If you are not receiving Social Security retirement benefits, then you must apply for Medicare during your Initial Enrollment Period. To do this, contact Social Security within seven months of your 65th birthday to enroll. If you miss this period, you can enroll during the General Enrollment Period, but you may incur a penalty.

Will your medications still be covered under their formulary next year? You don’t want to be surprised in January. It’s also a time to shop around: can I save money with another plan? Does another plan offer more optional benefits?”
