Gimme those discounts!

Many businesses offer senior discounts, and who doesn’t love a bargain!

The trick is knowing what a given business calls a “senior,” and what discounts are offered and when. While some businesses offer senior discounts to customers as young as 50, others identify seniors as 55 and older, and still others consider senior to be 60 or 65 and older. It’s worth noting that while some businesses don’t offer discounts based on age but to those enrolled in AARP or AMAC (Association of Mature American Citizens).

Either way, knowing the types of businesses offering senior discounts can really be an eye opener — so many do!

TAKE A LOOK

Retail

If “retail” brings stores like Kohl’s, Ross Dress for Less and Goodwill to mind, you’re right. These all offer senior discounts. But don’t miss deals from others such as Walgreen’s, Lowe’s, JOANN Fabric, Michaels, and even Amazon Prime.

Grocery

Maybe this is well known, but it surprised us! Look for senior discounts at Albertsons, New Seasons Markets, Fred Meyer and Safeway.

Restaurants

Some of our favs are on this list, and likely some of yours. Senior discounts are offered at Chart House, Joe’s Crab Shack, Outback Steakhouse and McCormick & Schmick’s. Of the more casual or fast-food variety, restaurants offering senior discounts include McDonald’s, IHOP and Denny’s.  Important to note: if a restaurant doesn’t offer a senior discount, they may have a rewards program. A few that do include Arby’s, Chili’s, Red Lobster and Panera.

Entertainment and Recreation

Everyone has their own idea of R&R, and there are senior discounts for a wide variety of options. These include movie theaters, Audible and Ancestry memberships, national parks, fitness programs and even ticketing vendors.
A few examples:

  • AMC, Cinemark, Regal and
    Showcase Theatres
  • National Parks America the
