Mike Lariza: Back in the Groove

The 50plus Oregon Senior Games series returns, featuring some of the 50+ phenoms who’ll be competing in the Games in Corvallis Aug 13-19.

Watch this space now through game time to meet fun, fascinating people who make the Games an experience to remember — for competitors, volunteers, and spectators alike!

This week, meet track and field phenom, Mike Lariza.

Back in the Groove

“I love the Oregon Senior Games, as they give everyone over 50 ways to participate in a variety of events,” says Mike Lariza, a lifelong athlete who recently set a new senior American record for the triple jump.

In 2012, Mike was in a car crash that sidelined him with severe injuries. The resultant surgery and prolonged rest caused him to gain weight. But by walking and changing his diet, he dropped 63 pounds. Ready to jump for joy again, he encourages “fence sitters” to give the August games a try. “Participate in an activity you enjoy, and have family or friends join you!”
