Stretch your pet food dollar

Recent events have many concerned about the rising costs of feeding not only themselves,

but their beloved pets. Following are ways to provide your furry  companion(s) with healthy nutrition without breaking the bank.

Savings Tips

  • Buy in bulk.Purchase large bags of food for the lowest price per pound.
  • Shop at discount stores. Large retailers like Walmart, Costco, and Bi-Mart often have competitive prices and coupons.
  • Use coupons and loyalty programs. For coupons, check online, mailers, and at your preferred store. Join loyalty programs via an app, and make checking weekly discounts a habit.
  • Consider generic.Generic brands from well-known companies can be cheaper and still nutritionally complete. Do carefully check ingredients and nutrition info.

Nutritional supplements and alternatives

  • Mix wet and dry.Including a bit of inexpensive wet food in kibble adds moisture and palatability.
  • Incorporate fresh foods.Supplement inexpensive additions like cooked lean meats, eggs, plain yogurt, or sardines (in water).
  • Make bone broth. The benefits of bone broth are many: it’s nutrition packed so great for gut health.
