DIY Project to Warm Up the Season
Giant Cocoa Mug
What’s more warming — for hearts and spirits — than a great holiday big cocoa mug!
Full disclosure: I dashed off these instructions after seeing a friend’s mug (she followed TikTok for instructions). These were approved for usability by fellow crafters. Remember, with any craft, variations and imperfections are. . . well, perfect! Follow the basics as well as your heart and have fun.

Components
- 12-18” Resin or plastic flowerpot
- Holiday decals
- Styrofoam cylinders (for marshmallows)
- Styrofoam wreath form or pool noodle (for handle, optional straw)
- Candy-striped gift wrap (for optional straw)
Supplies
- Glue gun, glue
- Knife
- Spackle (optional)
- Spray or acrylic paint
Instructions
- Paint flowerpot in desired color.
- Cut one wreath form or pool noodle to attach as mug handle. Once cut, hot glue the ends, attach to “mug,” and hold for 15 +/- seconds to set.
- If the surface is desired, consider a brown party tray or painted cardboard cutout (the latter allows you to cut a hole for a straw).
- Glue 2 cylinders together to form a marshmallow. Sand edges for a finished look.
- Sand edges for a finished look
- Apply holiday decals.
For photos
- Leave the “mug” open (no top), and fill with a holiday bear, wrapped empty boxes for gifts, or event your pet(s)!
For décor only
- Set the tray or cardboard cutout into top of mug.
- Place “marshmallows” around top, and – if desired – peppermint or other ornaments.
