Itching to Update a Room? What you need to know

Winter doldrums or the anticipation of guests can spark the desire to spruce things up. If you get the itch, before diving in, consider this.

Right Time, Right Project

Even minor renovation projects create dirt and chaos, and even the happiest holidays tend to be a little stressful, begging for a little downtime afterward. Before starting a project of any size, ask yourself if the timing makes sense.

If you have plenty of time and energy for a project right now, consider fast, fun changes like freshening up a room. Small changes can make a big difference!

For example. . .

• Hanging or standing a large mirror opposite a window dramatically brightens and enlarges a room.

• Small arrangements of colorful berries or branches can really brighten an occasional table or kitchen nook.

• A tired corner can become a point of pride with original art — by you, friends or family. Think outside the box! It’s surprising how fabulous a child’s crayon scribbling looks when matted and framed.
