Oregon Senior Games Profile: Dan Doble

At last year’s Oregon Senior Games, volunteer Dan Doble witnessed something that led him to add “athlete” to his volunteer status: a 92-year-old man tossing a hammer and winning gold.

“That made me realize that, given the right amount of determination — and maybe some good genes — that even as we age we can do far more than we might think,” he says.

With this in mind, Doble — with no experience in competitive sports — ran a 50m race. “To my great surprise and a bit of luck, I did pretty well.”

Indeed, Dan took home his own gold medal.

“Volunteer and/or give the senior games a chance,” he says. “You may find yourself with a new lease on life.”
